I remember when I was a child and singing during Sunday worship just didn’t mean much to me. The songs were rich with God’s greatness. But I was empty and didn’t like it much. Since that time, God has lit a flame in my soul and I love singing to Him because He has become everything to me. I hope that is happening to you too – especially you men!
My private worship time this morning focused on Deuteronomy 32, Moses’ worship song. In it there are huge reasons for us to sing our heart out in corporate worship (and in private).
Deuteronomy 31:19-21 We need to sing because we need to be reminded and warned not to turn away from following Jesus. SING so you won’t stop following.
Deuteronomy 32:2 Words of adoring God, when they’re sung and when they’re heard, are like God watering the dry ground, “like gentle rain upon the tender grass.” SING so your soul will be satisfied with God.
Deuteronomy 32:10-14 Singing worship songs makes fills your mind with many reminders of God’s great love and provision for you like, He keeps you “as the apple of his eye,” and like an eagle “spreading out its wings” over its young. SING so you won’t believe the perpetual lie in your head that God will not care for you.
Deuteronomy 32:12-18 The constant tendency for you to turn to “new gods” which will care for you will be exposed and corrected. SING so you will not worship a false god.
Deuteronomy 32:18 Singing worship songs to Jesus guides you away from idolatry and self-ruin by filling your mind with the fact that He is “the Rock” that saved you and gives you everything. SING so you will be filled with the truth that He has you.
Colossians 3:16-17 And it’s not just for you alone. As each person sings worship to Jesus everyone else hears it and benefits from all these things too. SING so the whole church family will be protected against idolatry.
This Sunday, when you attend corporate worship, I hope you will find a rich, deep passion burning in your soul to be close to God, having all that He is. And I thank God for blessing our church with a worship team that serves us in this beautiful way.
