It is helpful to be reminded often of why we exist and where we are going as a church. Recently we took several weeks looking at the biblical mandates for the church and our attempt to articulate those things so we can help one another along the way to doing them. If you are new and missed all this or if you might be encouraged by seeing it again here’s a bit more on our new mission statement.
Mission Statement: We are building a family to delight in God and spread His grace: making mature disciples, serving others, transforming families, communities and nations.
We are building a family… In all the Bible you see God doing this. He is building a people who will be His forever. He calls Himself our Father and us, His sons and daughters, His household. We are called to join Him in this work of building up the church, caring for each other as brothers and sisters.
To delight in God… God’s family, the church has one, ultimate purpose, to delight ourselves in Him now and forever. Loving Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength is the single greatest thing believers are to do (Mark 12:28-30). Everything else we do flows out of this delight.
…and spread His grace… The first and greatest command, to worship God, produces a heart desiring to do the second greatest command, love your neighbor as yourself (Mark 12:28-31). We are to spread His grace to one another within the Koinos Family and to friends in our community who don’t yet know Christ as well as to all nations on earth so they may become part of His family too.
…growing mature disciples… The primary way the church delights in God and spreads His grace is by making disciples as commanded by Jesus in Matthew 28:19-20. That includes leading people to faith in Christ and helping them grow to maturity in Christ’s likeness so that they are fruit-bearing church members living out this same mission.
…serving others… The mark of mature disciples is servanthood, living like Christ by considering the needs of others as more important than our own needs (Philippians 2:3-5). We all are to grow up and become contributors and not just consumers. We are to be ready to care for the needs of the church family in any way necessary at any time.
…transforming families… As church members live out this mission broken families receive the care needed and are healed. We will intentionally live out grace toward hurting families so that they find restoration in God’s forever family.
…communities… The transforming power of grace grows throughout the community so that the darkness of this world is pierced by the light. The church family will find every means possible to spread grace so that more and more people find renewal.
…and nations… The growth of the gospel cannot be stopped by any boundary. God has sent and we will go into all the world until all the nations have in them the light of the gospel of the glory of God and enjoy the same delight in Him as we have.
God, give us grace to live this out personally and together as a church family.
