The Bible teaches that God is completely sovereign. That means He has the authority and power to do whatever He wishes in order to accomplish His good purposes. He uses His power and purposes for doing good to people, for holding people accountable for sin and to display His glory.

God is sovereign over:

Man’s decisions – 1 Kings 12:15

World rulers – Proverbs 21:1

Nations – Psalm 33:10-12

Natural forces and disasters – Job 1:12, 18-19, Psalm 135:5-7

Satan & demons – Mark 1:27

Suffering – Job 1:6-12; 20-22

Life and death – Deuteronomy 32:39

Giving or preventing the birth of children – Gen. 29:31-32

The day of your birth and death – Psalm 139:13 & 16

Sickness and disability – Exodus 4:11

Success of business plans – James 4:13-15

Every plan people make – Proverbs 16:1

The Rain and growth of food in the fields – Job 5:10

Evil and sinful people – Proverbs 16:4

The rolling of dice – Proverbs 16:33

Everything – Romans 8:28

All things are His servants doing what He wants – Psalm 119:90-91
