My scripture reading today brought to mind how real-life hardship can easily cause resentment and unbelief to grow in us. What we need is God’s grace to overcome resentment and stir within a renewed heart that loves and longs for God.
First Samuel 18-20 tells the horrible story of Saul’s raging jealousy turning into numerous attempts to kill David and turn his best friend Jonathan against him.
Honestly it seems rare that one would come out of this experience having a tender, adoring longing to know God. But that is exactly what God’s grace accomplishes in David.
My reading plan had Psalm 63 scheduled today as well. It gives us a window into the worshiping heart that God has brought through hardship.
Psalm 63:1 “O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; my soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.”
